Improvement to public recreation access on the Greenbrier River will be getting better thanks to funding provided through a Recreational Trails Grant.
On Tuesday, November 29, Governor Earl Ray Tomblin recognized recipients of grant awards to fund 54 community and infrastructure projects across the state. The Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Grant programs will provide more than $7 million for a variety of improvements. An award in the amount of $28,000 was awarded to the Forest Service for an application submitted to improve the Anthony Boat Launch in Greenbrier County.
Improvements to access on the Greenbrier River at Anthony on the Monongahela National Forest will include the construction of a boat launch, improvements to two parking areas, stabilization of the river bank, and design and installation of a kiosk with safety and responsible river recreation messages. This project will be a collaborative effort between the US Forest Service, Greenbrier River Watershed Association, West Virginia Department of Natural Resources West, and the Greenbrier Valley Soil and Water Conservation District.
Grant funding is provided by the Federal Highway Administration. The West Virginia Division of Highways administers the program and provides oversight in selection of projects for award.
