Camp Waldo campers receive history lesson
Greenbrier River Watershed Association (GRWA) Board members Chris Chanlett and John Farrell delivered this sculptured watershed model of the lower Greenbrier River, which was built by Friends of the Lower Greenbrier River nine years ago. The pair returned to give campers a lesson in the history of the river, Camp Lightfoot and it becoming Camp Waldo, and the 187 year old Farrell Family Farm, all nestled in the river’s Big Bend.
The model has resided in several locations , most recently at the Railroad Museum in Alderson. It was touched by the 2016 flood in the Friends of the Lower Greenbrier River (FOLGR) office. Kevin Johnson, education director at Waldo, invited us to the camp. Many people participated in the creation of this artful educational tool.
FOLGR was reunited within the GRWA to preserve and protect the entire length of our river.
